Dr. Jeannine Uwimana-Nicol
Director, Stakeholder Relationships Management (Rwandan National)
Dr. Jeannine Uwimana-Nicol is Rwanda based in Cape Town, South Africa. She is a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Evidence based Health Care, Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Global Health Department. Faculty of Medicine and Health sciences at Stellenbosch University. She also holds a faculty position at the School of Public Health, University of Rwanda as a visiting Senior lecturer.
Dr. Uwimana Nicol is a Public Health specialist and holds a PhD in Health Policy and Systems Strengthening from the School of Public Health, University of the Western Cape, South Africa; and other postgraduate training in Health Economics (UCT); International Community Health (University of Oslo, Norway) and Biostatistics (John Hopkins University- Maryland, USA).
Dr. Uwimana Nicol has expertise in Epidemiology, Infectious diseases, Maternal and child health, Public Health Nutrition, Evidence synthesis in Public Health and Research methods. Over the past 11 years, she has acquired extensive experience in research and academic environments as a lecturer and supervising and mentoring postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) in Rwanda and South Africa. She has over 20 peer-reviewed publications and led several research projects locally and internationally including consulting for the MoH in Rwanda, WHO, UNICEF and EGPAF. Dr Uwimana-Nicol is a member of various scientific committees and network including the WHO working group on TB and HIV; WHO technical group on Integrated Non-communicable Diseases and communicable diseases among others. Beside her professional and academic work, Dr. Uwimana-Nicol is a social entrepreneur with a passion and mission to promote African driven solutions that are aligned to Redeem, Restore and Re-align the African continent with God’s purpose. Dr Uwimana -Nicol is among the founders of a Pan Africa Christian AIDs Network (PACANET) that was founded in 2001 and served as Board Member. In 2009, she founded an NGO (Hands of Hope for Africa International) in one of the rural areas in South Africa to promote Maternal and Child Health care (MCH) through an award from Discovery Health as Best young Scientist. The NGO is geared to improve MCH and health of young people through Awareness, Education and Skills development. In 2015, Dr. Uwimana Nicol founded a Pan-African Network for technocrats and bureaucrats (Africa Arise Christian Network) with a mission to be a ‘Think Tank’ that create a platform for dialogue, empowerment and consultancy in attempt to deal with sustainable development goals of the African continent. Finally, Dr Uwimana-Nicol is a founding member of the African Women in Business Network and currently serve on the APSS board.
