Amos Mwangi
Former Founding CEO of Ed Partners Africa (Kenyan National)
Amos Mwangi was appointed as the CEO of Africa Education Trust Fund in May 2026. He is a development finance and financial inclusion expert based in Kenya with over 20 years of experience in mobilizing capital, structuring blended finance solutions, and leading high-impact institutions across Africa. Amos is passionate about transforming education systems through sustainable financing, innovation, and partnerships.
He also served as the Founding CEO of Ed Partners Africa (2018–2023), Africa’s first specialized education finance institution, developed through global benchmarking and local market adaptation. Under his leadership, the organization raised over $23 million from DFIs, impact investors, and philanthropic partners, and financed more than 400 low-cost non-state schools, improving access and learning outcomes for over 120,000 learners.
He brings deep expertise in education financing models that expand access, improve quality, and strengthen delivery systems, particularly in underserved communities, and maintains strong networks across schools, financial institutions, policymakers, and development partners.
Previously, as General Manager at Faulu Microfinance Bank, he led a successful turnaround, growing the loan book nine-fold to over $180 million and restoring profitability while working with international development partners. His experience spans fundraising, market development, product innovation, credit and portfolio management, and building scalable financial platforms aligned with impact and sustainability goals.
Amos has a strong track record in mobilizing and deploying capital for inclusive growth, particularly linking education to skills, livelihoods, and economic opportunity. He has also led the development of theory of change frameworks and monitoring systems to track financial and social outcomes.
He has undertaken executive assignments and benchmarking engagements across Africa and India, and currently serves as Board Chairman of a public school and is the former Chairman of a micro-insurance start-up.
He holds a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance, a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA–Kenya), and has completed executive leadership programs at INSEAD and Frankfurt School of Finance and Management.
